EBC 5th Grade Scholars Visit U.S. Bank for BizWorld!

Bizworld was an amazing experience for our 5th graders! Diving into corporate life as a fortune 500 company is a true opportunity to inspire children who have never stepped into a corporate office before. The two-day Bizworld event has impacted not only the students but the families and teachers who experienced Bizworld for the first time.
On February 28th and March 1st, the buses came early in the morning to take Edward B. Cole’s (EBC’s) 5th graders to U.S. Bank’s corporate offices in Irvine. The kids awed at the height of the building they were about to enter, and their faces were full of smiles, partially because they were about to have a unique school day away from their desk and classrooms. Upon entering the building, students were greeted by enthusiastic U.S. Bank employees who were ready to mentor them throughout the next two days. EBC scholars had so many questions about the people inside the building, the rooms, the space, and the elevators! Students were placed in groups (companies) and worked under the guidance of Bizworld coaches and U.S. Bank staff, to build a company from the ground up; the real-world application had kids exploding with creativity and excitement. Sales pitches, product creation, and making hard choices about how much to spend or to take out another loan, will provide these students with basic foundations that adults today struggle with. The highlight of the event was the “Bazar” where students sold the items they created to actual shoppers; 25 U.S. Bank employees, EBC parents, and TCCDC staff. The room buzzed with excitement and anticipation as to what each company was selling; items like bookmarks, keychains, bracelets, and greeting cards were colorfully displayed for shoppers to choose from. Students invited shoppers to their stores utilizing marketing strategies and engaging them with deals that seemed too good to pass by. At the end of the two-day event, each group of students conducted a company analysis to assess whether their startup had successfully generated profit or incurred a loss. Programs like Bizworld can have the potential to change how education can transform to fit the greater needs of society while preparing children for the real world.
Thank you, Bizworld & U.S. Bank for a tremendous and lasting impact on our Edward B. Cole’s 5th graders!
