107 Parent Leaders Trained & Ready to Transform Santa Ana
Article Published: September 7, 2017
“Success” This, is one of many words to describe our Parent Leader training held on August 28, 2017.
107 Parent Leaders attended our Raising Highly Capable Kids revised curriculum training and were equipped with the proper tools to embark on their journeys to teach and help other Santa Ana parents. The training was split into two groups, Spanish and English. 90 Parent Leaders attended the Spanish session, and 17 attended the English session. During the 3-hour training, Parent Leaders participated in engaged discussions and group projects as they learned how to teach the new and revised curriculum better.
The 13-week curriculum that is based on the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets had undertaken decades of research with more than 5 million children and found that there are 40 building blocks every child needs to grow and mature. The more of these assets a child has in his or her life, the more likely he or she is to engage in healthy behaviors while veering away from those that are unhealthy. As an evidence based program, it has been proven that the Raising Highly Capable Kids curriculum is having a positive and measurable impact on the lives of the children whose parents take the classes.
Last year, our parenting classes were offered in 30 Santa Ana schools; this year, our goal is to be in 35 schools and to train over 1,000 parents! However, the most important goal is to help build resiliency in the youth of Santa Ana. Will you help us achieve our goals by becoming a Parent Leader or sponsoring a family to attend the Raisin Highly Capable Kids classes? Help us continue to strengthen our city by strengthening families, will you sponsor a family today for $95 a year?
